The encaustic series is an art form requiring the artist and viewer to work together. The encaustic paintings reflect the better feelings Grandstaff has from a youth spent scavenging vacant lots for discarded materials that could be repurposed in a new and exciting way.
Grandstaff chose to use encaustic wax for that extra coarseness that seemed so prevalent then - but which gives a rich finish to these constructions. He wishes to create similar introspections among the viewers of the pieces, and that they will create narratives of their own. Let your mind go - feel like a L’il Rascal and remember what fun it was growing up, being creative, and making up stories even if you were not from the Bronx.
